Regap the plug an additional .005 and see what it does, since it sounds to me as if you are experiencing an incomplete ignition/burn of the fuel. The recommendation is for a bone stock carb, and you are likely fouling the plug out with the extra fuel it is now getting without the spacer. More fuel in the mix requires a hotter spark (larger flame kernel) to burn it.

PS: If that doesn't work, start regapping the plug by .001 increments up until you lose the stall.
